This week we’re discussing every album by Grotus (stylized as Grötüs). Die hard Mike Patton fans might recognize this band, as he championed them in the early 90s and even took them on tour with Mr. Bungle. However, Grotus’s music stands on its own as a brutal mashup of industrial and groove metal. An overlooked gem of a band that’s worth checking out.

This week we’re discussing the debut album by Satyasena. Formed and led by Pej Mon (of Secret Chiefs 3 and Ghoul), Satyasena explores a side of metal that you probably haven’t heard before. Middle Eastern, industrial, and death metal, among many other styles—it’s an intense and extremely complex ride. Not for the faint of heart, but worth checking out for all extreme music fans.

This week we’re discussing Mutants, the newest album by Mutoid Man. Led by Stephen Brodsky, who many should know from Cave In (among many other side projects), as well as his guest appearances with bands like Converge (not to mention his role on Two Minutes to Late Night), Mutoid Man is one of the absolute most fun metal bands around. Blending elements of countless metal subgenres, as well as 90s video game and cartoon nostalgia, Mutants is one of the coolest albums we’ve heard from this year. Catchy, diverse, expertly performed, and charming as hell. Give it a shot.

This week we’re discussing the one and only album by Dave Grohl’s Probot. The band was a passion project by Grohl and was made to quench his thirst for metal. Every track has a different, legendary guest vocalist. Lemmy, King Diamond, Max Cavalera, Cronos, and Wino are only a few of the heavy hitters we have on this album. Even Jack Black makes an appearance. If you’re a fan of metal, this one is a must.

This week we’re discussing every album by Saint Vitus. Led by guitarist Dave Chandler, Saint Vitus pretty much invented doom metal in the early to mid 80s after being signed to Greg Ginn’s (of Black Flag) record label, SST. While the band has gone through numerous vocalists and lineup changes, the infamous Scott Wino Weinrich left his mark on this band with some of their best albums. Heavy stuff, but definitely not for everyone.

This week we discuss Devin Townsend's Strapping Young Lad. Of all the metal bands we've covered, Strapping Young Lad might just be the craziest and most technically impressive of the bunch. Although they have one of the most misleading band names ever, they are also one of the most interesting, chaotic, and unpredictable bands to ever play a blastbeat. Townsend isn't only a completely original guitarist and songwriter, but is also one of the most versatile vocalists in all of metal. Listen to this band now. Also Gene Hoglan was their drummer. Okay, NOW listen to them.
